Between a Rock and a Calm Place...
helping you find your way through
Introduction
Welcome. I hope this site helps you to understand more what Cork Counselling and Psychotherapy are about and maybe give you some insight that will help you decide if you would like to pursue it further.
My goal, as a Counsellor, is to provide a safe, caring and confidential environment that will encourage you to explore whatever issues you may have. It is often you, the client, who knows on a deeper level how to resolve your problems. You just haven't been given (1) a calm place (2) quality time, or (3) an unbiased listening ear to help draw out what has been unclear and give it clarity. Whether you feel your problems are large or small, recent or long term, simple or complex, there is always a way to work through them.

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling usually
explores an immediate issue such as a family or relationship
conflict. It is often short term yet not as thorough or extensive as
Psychotherapy, which further explores the client's thought
processes and way of being in the world rather than specific problems.
The skills, training and tools Counsellors and Psychotherapists can overlap according to the client's needs. A client may be suffering from depression or anxiety after being made unemployed. Counselling may explore this as one specific issue to deal with. Psychotherapy may explore the client's overall well being and functioning on a deeper level especially if underlying or related issues become more apparent as well.
